Back to School Traditions

I think Back-to-School time is one of my favorite times of the year. Not because I get a little peace and quiet during the days, but because I get to go shopping! Back to school shopping is something I used to look forward to when I was a kid too. I got to pick out new school clothes and fun school supplies to show my personality. We moved around a lot growing up, so I always had to make new friends each year. Lisa Frank was my go-to designer of choice for school supplies. SONY DSC

We didn’t do a lot of clothing shopping during the year unless it was for seasonal items like a swimsuit or a coat. We do out big shopping trip during the back to school months because they offer tax-free weekends and big sales. So I’ve carried this tradition on with my kids. SONY DSC

We buy our winter wardrobe during this time. My kids have pretty much destroyed their shoes by this point also. My daughter goes through shoes like crazy. There are no hand-me-down shoes in this family.  They are so worn out; I can’t even donate them. Play hard, or go home!  So I make sure to buy good, sturdy shoes that I know are going to last all year, or at least until she grows out of them.

I was able to find a lot of great styles at Famous Footwear this year. I let JaMonkey pick out her sneakers they year. I knew she would pick out the awesome, limited edition tie-dyed Sketchers. Heck, my husband wants a matching pair! She wasn’t digging the cute boat shoes that are trendy right now. Luckily, my youngest doesn’t care about fashion sense yet so I found some cute Polo by Ralph Lauren plaid boat shoes for her. I even got myself some comfy black Dr. Scholl’s flats for myself, all under $100!

So we are all ready for back to school. I totally get a pass to shop too because I’m a college student! My school supplies just happen to be more expensive. Now it’s time to find some fun outfits and notebooks to head back to school. SONY DSC

Can you tell we’ve been busy soaking up the sun before we head back to school?! It’s so hot in the south right now, in the 90’s most days. But we are having lots of summer fun together.
