As Pinterest grows at a viral rate more people are wanting to incorporate it into everything they do. People love it because they find great information from blogs that didn’t know about. Bloggers love it because it brings them traffic and new followers. Brands are even catching up on the trend and creating their own Pinterest Pages.

So why not add it to your other Social Media Networks.

The following tutorial is going to teach you how to create a Pinterest Tab on your Facebook Fan Page. It will allow people to follow you and see your boards without leaving Facebook.

UPDATE: Facebook has changed all Facebook Fan Pages to the new Timeline format (As of March 30) The steps are still the same but I’ve updated the “Finish Product” photo for you.

Facebook Fan Page Home Screen

Pinterest Tab

First, Install the WooBox Static iFrame App on your Facebook Fan Page

1. Visit apps.facebook.com/iframehost

2. Click Install Page Tab.

3. Choose the page you want to add the iframe app too.

4. Click Add Static iFrame Tab

If you are planning on creating a custom Pinterest Icon on your tab you can skip down to Step 12

5. You new tab will appear on your Fan page with a Blue icon that says Welcome. Click this tab to Edit the Static iFrame.

6. Click the Authorize the Tab application

7. Click Allow

8. Select URL in the Page Source section.

9. The best way to display your Pinterest Profile is to use the Mobile version of Pinterest. (Inserting m. before Pinterest.com without the www) There are different things you have the option to link to.

User Homepage (with Follow button) http://m.pinterest.com/USERNAME

User Boards http://m.pinterest.com/USERNAME/BOARD-NAME/

Your Website Source (things that have pinned from your website only) http://m.pinterest.com/source/jamonkey.com/

You can tak the m. (for mobile) out but it actually fits perfectly in the area whereas the full version will create scroll bars.

10. You’ll see at the bottom before you Save Changes that you can change the Tab Name from Welcome to Pinterest.

11. Click Save Changes and then you can scroll to the top and select View Tab.

If you’d like you can create a custom Pinterest tab to have a cute little Pinterest Icon to go with it follow these steps.

12. Create New App (this step is much easier in a new browser tab or window)

Visit https://developers.facebook.com/apps and click the Create New App button. Next type an App Name (This can be anything you want, the name you are going to call your tab would be a good choice), agree to the Facebook terms and click Continue.

13. Configure your App

Download this image (Right click > Save As) to use as your Pinterest Icon

Click the edit icon link to upload the icon for your tab. Next, click the Page Tab section under Select how your app integrates with Facebook.

Note your App ID at the top of the page. You need this App ID to create the URLs you need to enter in the App on Facebook and Page Tab sections,

Canvas URL - Enter http://YOURAPPID.iframehost.com/ (Replace YOURAPPID with your App ID)
Secure Canvas URL - Enter https://YOURAPPID.iframehost.com/ (Replace YOURAPPID with your App ID)
Page Tab URL - Enter http://YOURAPPID.iframehost.com/tab (Replace YOURAPPID with your App ID)
Secure Page Tab URL - Enter https://YOURAPPID.iframehost.com/tab (Replace YOURAPPID with your App ID)
Page Tab Name - Enter whatever you want your tab name to be
*** Make sure your Tab URLs end in /tab ***
After you finish entering those 4 fields. Click the Save Changes button.

14. Install your new App to your Page

Make a note of your App Secret (you will need to input it shortly). Enter the following URL in your browser to install your new page tab app:

http://www.facebook.com/add.php?api_key=YOURAPPID&pages (Replace YOURAPPID with your App ID)
Select the page you would like to install the tab on.

15. Visit your Page Tab

The first time you visit your page tab, you will be prompted to enter your App Secret into activate the tab.

After you Activate your new App you will need to set it up just like stated in steps 5-11

Then you can delete the extra tab (with the blue icon) because you’ve replaced it with the new pretty Pinterest icon.

  12. Hi Meghan:

I luv your tutorial…very easy to follow and I had my Pinterest page up in no time. However, what i am struggling with is getting a custom image on the tab. (not the icon). I realize there is a place in the settings to use browse and find an image, but everytime i use it, nothing happens. I have checked my image and it is 111 x 74. Can you assist?

    • The larger image has to be 75x75pixels ;) that should solve your problem!

      • Meghan:

That did not work either. :( I am going into the tab settings and trying to put this where it says “tab image” new. Is that right? Thanks!

        • It should be in the developer section of Facebook, and “Editing” the app you created, if you hover over the image that looks like a gear a pencil should appear for you to change it.

  13. Hi,

Thanks for the information on how to do this to my facebook fanpage. I got ahead of myself and stuffed it up and then removed the app but now it won’t let me select the fanpage and install the app and go through everything again.

How can I start from scratch again? I’ve definitely removed the app.

    Many thanks,

    Karen

    • I would delete the Developers App you created as well. Then check your Fanpage App Settings page to make sure that it isn’t there. You can delete apps/ tabs from your fan page but they stay installed in your app settings.

  14. Hello and thanks for the app. But you know if there is a similar tab for my personal facebook page?
I want to add a tab with my personal web site.

    Many thanks

    Fabian

    • Meghan says:

There is a Facebook Pinterest App. If you are already using you can show your pins on your personal timeline with it. You can also click on the little arrow on the right hand side of your tabs and add it to your favorites as well. That is the only option for personal pages.

  15. Hey Meghan,
Thanks for this step by step tutorial of adding a Pinterest tab to a fan page. Now how do I make the new pins comeup in news feeds? When I add pins I want it to show up so I can start discussions and remind people I’m pinning. Also, can the pin show up in my personal news feed as well, to catch any stragglers?
Thanks so much for your help! Awesome website, I will definately be back:)

    • At the moment the only way to post to Facebook is if you are clicking the “Share on Facebook” option on your pins. At this time I think the only way to share pins on your timeline is on your personal profile.

  16. Hi Meghan, I have a personal Facebook page and a Visalus Fan Page. I followed your instructions, thought I did, anyway, what I wanted on my fan page was the “Follow me on Pinterest” Tab that you can get from Pinterest goodies. This is the code for that tab I have a tab on my fan page,
http:// http://www.facebook.com/JimKroegersViSalusFanPage . It does say follow me on pinterest, but is not what the one in the above code looks like. When I click it, it takes me to my pinterest page but shows everything vertical and nasty looking. If anyone could screw this up, it wuld be me the newbie! Canyou help me?

    • Hey Jim, I just checked out your page and the first thing I noticed is that when I click on your tab it auto directs me to your Pinterest page (Instead of showing your Pinterest page on Facebook) I’m not sure how that happened but you might need to start over fresh.

  17. Hi, I’ve followed your instructions but once I save, I go to my facebook page and click the pinterest tab and I get a message where my pinterest board should be saying ‘the content cannot be displayed in a frame’. What am I doing wrong?!

  18. Christine says:

Hi Meghan it looks like I am the only one stuck. I can’t proceed with all your instructions as I am stuck at stage 14. Can’ t find the place where it gives me the option to add application to Pinterest. what am I doing wrong?
    Many thanks!

  19. I’m going to try this!

  20. Hello! I am attempting to install this tab on my ebay business facebook page. When I click on the install button it tells me that I have to switch to my personal page. It will not allow me to install it on the business page. Am I doing something wrong?

    • You have to be on your personal page in order to install onto a fan page, once you do this it will give you the option of selecting the fan page you wish to install it on.

  21. I keep getting a large blank screen that says UNAUTHORIZED – What am I missing?

  22. Hi, I am trying to use the Static Iframe app to install a Pinterest button on my Facebook Fan page. After filling out the form and clicking the save settings button it just keeps me on the form page. It doesn’t offer a “Authorize The Tab Application” button. I then go to the installed Pinterest button which just directs me to a page that says “Unauthorized”. I was able to install a Twitter button with no issues, After saving the settings on the Twitter form it forwarded me to a page that said grant access. I don’t get this option when installing the Pinterest button. Please help and thank you for your reply.
