How to Put Together a Capsule Maternity Wardrobe

maternity1
There are lots of expenses associated with having a baby. Kitting out a nursery and buying a pram will definitely cost a pretty penny – kitting yourself out with a capsule maternity wardrobe, however, doesn’t have to.

The key to putting together the perfect maternity wardrobe is to choose classic pieces that will work together, making each garment work as hard as possible. This is vital in order to feel like you’ve got the best value for money on clothes that you may only get a few months to wear out of – although remember that you’re likely to find yourself relying on your maternity wardrobe for some time after to birth. Classic pieces will also remain timeless, meaning that you can extend the wear to any future pregnancies to really get your monies worth.

Here are some items that every maternity wardrobe needs:

Maternity Jeans

Don’t feel that you have to give up your trusty denim because of your expanding shape. You’ll find maternity jeans available in all styles and colors, meaning you’re sure to find the perfect pair for every occasion.

Of course, stiff buttons and buckles are a no go. Maternity jeans instead feature a soft, elasticated panel which is worn either underneath or over the bump. If you love your skinnies and can’t bear the thought of being without them for nine months or so, you’ll find gorgeous skinny styles in George’s range of maternity jeans at ASDA. The classic maternity skinny comes in dark denim with an under bump elasticated waistband, or, for a kooky twist on a classic, choose the navy spot print skinny jeans.

If you’re more of a bootcut babe, George has gorgeous navy bootcut jeans with a comfortable and supportive overbump panel, which can be either dressed up or dressed down.

The abovementioned pairs of maternity jeans cost just £16 each, so you can afford to go crazy and grab all three!

Longline Tops

Whatever the season, whether you’re thinking vest, t.shirt or jumper, the key is to go for the longline look. Keep bumps comfy, cozy and covered with longer line tops, and layer up basics to make your wardrobe work through the seasons.

Smock tops that come in under the bust are a popular maternity style as they flow over the bump while still creating shape.

Cozy Cover-Ups

Longline cardigans and gilets are great for keeping out a chill, and can also be removed easily should you start to overheat. Thin layers are best if you want to avoid the bulky look.

Something Special

Being pregnant doesn’t mean going into hibernation for nine months, as much as you would sometimes like to. There are sure to be parties, work functions, wedding, and events to go to, so be sure to treat yourself to at least one special outfit that makes you look and feel great.

The body confident shouldn’t discount bodycon styles – who wants to disguise a beautiful baby bump anyway! Alternatively, a wrap dress will flatter most body shapes. Choose stretch fabrics that will grow with your bump, and get the most out of your special outfits throughout this pregnancy and beyond.

A good capsule maternity wardrobe can last for years, but there’s no need to break the bank. Check out the maternity jeans, tops and more at George ASDA and save your pennies for the pram of your dreams!

  1. Now that I’m pregnant again, I so wish I kept my maternity jeans from 3 years ago. But this time I think I’m going to attempt to make my own now that I have a sewing machine.

  2. I sometimes miss my maternity clothes at times — the stretchiness is heaven!!! Plus I have some super cute dresses that I always wonder if I can pull them off not being pregnant – ha!!
