One of our favorite family time traditions is to watch the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving morning. Seeing all the great balloons and the marching bands, musical acts, and dancers are fantastic. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ® making its way down the streets of New York City. 3.5 million spectators line the streets of Manhattan to watch the parade live and another 50 million viewers watch on television. You have to watch to the very end too or you’ll miss the best part when Santa Claus comes to town!
Macy’s is launching a new app called the Macy’s Time Traveler App and a set of emojis to help you celebrate one of the nation’s greatest traditions! You’ll get a chance to see the Macy’s Parade the way spectators viewed it in the 30s, 60s, and 80s. Herald Square even has the older buildings! The crowd is dressed in period clothing as well. The 1930s one is my favorite with all the bob haircuts and cute hats.
The app works much like a 360 video where you can use your phone to look around at the surrounding area and up into the sky as the big balloons go by. But what I think is really cool is that you can collect new Macy’s balloons while you’re visiting your local store through virtual reality. When you have some new balloons you can create your own parade in your back yard. Literally! Look I had my own Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in my back yard!
After you build a parade test out the Retro Selfie feature that puts you in the decade you’ve chosen and can snap a picture with the older balloons.
There is also a Macy’s Parade Emoji app that you can download and use stickers to share your Thanksgiving Parade love with friends and family. It even lets you send them out on social media!Download the Macy’s Apps now, they are free!
