Movies to watch with girls
- Home – (There is a new Home series coming to Netflix in July!) When Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human. And while he changes her planet and she changes his world, they discover the true meaning of the word HOME.
- A League of Their Own – Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.
- Tinker Bell – There are a few Tinker Bell movies to choose from, each with its own powerful message.
- Lilo and Stitch – Who doesn’t love an adorable little girl and her alien?
- Pocohantous II – Pocahontas sets off on a journey to England with Meeko, Flit, and Percy. Hearing rumors of John Smith’s death, Pocahontas tries to prevent war and battle.
- Mulan – To save her father from death in the army, a young maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China’s greatest heroines in the process.
- A Ballerina’s Tale – A feature documentary on African American ballerina Misty Copeland that examines her prodigious rise, her potentially career ending injury alongside themes of race and body image in the elite ballet world.
- Once I was a Beehive – After losing her father to cancer, a teenage girl reluctantly joins her new step-cousin at a summer camp for Latter-Day Saint (A.K.A: Mormon) girls.
- Flicka – Young Katy claims a wild horse as her own — an effort to prove to her father that she is capable of one day taking over the family ranch.
- Cowgirls n’ Angels – A group of rodeo trick-riders recruits a young girl to join them.
- Hotel Transylvania 2 – Dracula and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human, half vampire grandson in order to keep Mavis from leaving the hotel.
- American Girl Stories – There are a couple different American Girl stories to choose from!
- Anastasia – The last surviving child of the Russian Royal Family joins two con men to reunite with her grandmother, the Dowager Empress, while the undead Rasputin seeks her death.
- The Princess Bride – While home sick in bed, a young boy’s grandfather reads him a story called The Princess Bride.
- Nanny McPhee – Emma Thompson stars as a governess who uses magic to rein in the behavior of seven ne’er-do-well children in her charge.
TV Shows to watch
- Project Mc2 – This is one of our favorite shows on Netflix. We also love the cool experiments we can do like the girls. Check out the Circuit Beats review here.
- Dawn of the Croods – Eep, Grug, Thunk, Ugga, Sandy and Gran are back and funnier than ever in this all-new family sitcom. Follow everyone’s favorite family as they meet new friends, outrun new creatures and encounter “firsts” the world has never seen – such as school, slumber parties, hiccups and elections. The Croods are discovering them all.
- Glitter Force – When the magical kingdom of Jubiland is invaded by an evil emperor and his band of fairytale villains, a tiny pixie named Candy recruits five preteen girls to form the powerful team of the Glitter Force to help defend Earth from becoming the next target. These fabulous friends transform from ordinary school girls into super-powered cool girls. Defending the Earth from fairytale villains isn’t an easy job, but the Glitter Force proves that nothing is more powerful than friendship.
- Jem and the Holograms – How about a blast from your past to watch with you kids!?
- Totally Spies – Totally Spies! Is a fast-paced, high energy half-hour action comedy show starring Clover, Alex and Sam, Three Beverly Hills teens who unwittingly become international secret agents. As secret spies, the girls must manage to combine their schoolgirls responsibilities (be it getting homework done on time or finding the right dress for Friday’s dance) with their spy duties – battling with outlandish super-villains and basically saving the world – with style.
- Justice League – Wonder Woman…enough said!
- Fuller House -In the spinoff series, Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron-Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona, all move in to help take care of D.J.’s three boys — the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson, neurotic 7-year-old Max and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr.
- Strawberry Shortcake – A girl named Strawberry Shortcake, along with her cat Custard and dog Pupcake, has adventures in friendship in Strawberryland.
- LEGO Friends – Another new Netflix original series for kids is LEGO® Friends: The Power of Friendship featuring characters from the popular LEGO Friends line of construction toys. This series will follow the adventures of five best friends – Stephanie, Emma, Olivia, Mia and Andrea – around their hometown Heartlake City. From summer camp to the basketball court, saving their webcast or helping take care of a friend, the zany antics, adventures and missteps are made all the better by having their best friends by their side.
- LEGO Elves – Emily Jones befriends four magical elves who journey with her through Elvendale to find the portal back home.
- Powerpuff Girls – Three super-powered little girls constantly save the world (or at least the city of Townsville) from monsters, would-be conquerers and a few other gross things.
- My Little Pony – Watch the old and the new versions!
- Sofia the First – Sofia, is a little girl with a commoner’s background until her mom marries the King and suddenly she is royalty. With the help of the three fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy, Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard but behaving like one must come from the heart.
- Girl Meets World – More than a decade after “Boy Meets World”, Cory and Topanga Matthews are married and have two children. Their daughter, Riley, faces life lessons through her family, friends, and school–where her father is her history teacher–as her parents did when they were younger.
- H2o: Just Add Water – Three girls become mermaids after a mysterious island transforms them and gives them special powers.
- Mako Mermaids – A boy is magically turned a merman, and discovers his underwater origins, after he comes in contact with the magic waters at the mysterious Mako Island guarded by a trio of mermaids.
- H2O Mermaid Adventures – (This is the cartoon version of the one listed above) When three normal teenage girls stumble upon an ancient cave they undergo a transformation that will change their lives forever.
- Peg and Cat – A spirited little girl named Peg and her sidekick Cat solve problems using foundational math concepts.
- Angelina Ballerina – The adventures and ballet recitals of Angelina Ballerina in tow with her friends, Alice, William, Miss Lily and the menacing pair Priscilla and Penelope.
