It makes me so sad to see that kids don’t get more than 15 minutes for recess each day at school. On top of that teachers are taking recess away as a punishment to kids as well (that’s a whole new heated discussion). So we have to find interesting ways to keep the girls active to burn off some of that energy. We live close to a few parks, and we love to visit them when we can, but it’s normally on the weekends. But earlier this month we did something really fun with my friend and a bunch of kids, we had a kids Zumba party!Kids just don’t seem to play outside as much anymore. 70% of moms used to play outside when they were kids and not only 31% of kids are playing outside. It was a fun event that we were able to do inside while still getting exercise because the weather in Georgia is always hit or miss (rain, too hot or cold).
My friend Krystyn made all of the kids a water bottle with their names on them (which they loved!) and we served the kids healthy snacks like CLIF Kid Zbars and Zfruit Ropes and some fruits, veggies, and trail mix. Before we got started the kids played on some fun equipment like hula-hoops and carts.
Then we took the kids down to the group fitness room, and the instructor held a Zumba class just for the kids. They had so much fun dancing around together and learning the dance moves that they didn’t realize they were working up a good sweat.
I wish they did classes like this all the time for the kids! I think I’ll start doing a family Zumba class together with them.
The kids worked up a big appetite after their dance activity, so they all sat together to eat some snacks. Along with the fruit and veggie trays, I had sugar free juice boxes and trail mix for them. We also had CLIF Kid Zbars and Zfruit Ropes which are some of my kid’s favorite snacks. It’s usually the top after school snack as well. I love them because they are made with organic ingredients and perfect for active kids.
It’s difficult to fit playtime in around all the other activities back-to-school brings, but by getting creative and establishing a routine, you’ll be sure your kids are healthy and thriving all year long. The kids had a blast playing and dancing around together. They got to take their personalized water bottles and a few extra Zbars home with them as well.
