One of my favorite scenes in the Abominable movie is when Everest and the gang are relaxing under the beautiful weeping wisteria tree that starts to glow and twinkle. So I decided to make my own twinkling flowering tree for my daughter’s room. They are super simple to make also!
Abominable is out on Digital now and Blu-ray December 17th!
The trick is to use twinkling icicle lights for the project, so it looks like the flashing of Everest’s magic (or fireflies). The lights create a soft glow. If you make multiple stings you can place them all together to look more like a tree. We put our wisteria vine under my daughter’s loft bed to hang down. She has a couch bed under it that she can lay underneath then like Yi, Peng, Jin, and Everest.
I have one more set of flowers to string to make to fill up the area. These would also make an adorable photo backdrop for a party or wedding. Some of the pictures I’ve seen, they add a bunch of greenery to hide all the wires.
Abominable Magical Flowering Tree
Materials
- 10 pcs Wisteria Vine
- Twinkling Icicle Lights Warm White
- tape
Instructions
- Unwind your twinkling icicle lights and stretch them out as much as possible. Lay them out and gather your wisteria flowers.
- Pull the wisteria vines apart from the stems.
- Tape the longer wisteria flowers to the longer icicle light strings (4 to 5 lights per string)
- Tape the smaller pieces to the shorter string lights.
- Tape green leaves to the top line.
