I don’t know about you, but my daughter loves getting things in the mail. So occasionally I’ll send a card to her out of the blue when she isn’t expecting it. It’s the perfect and cheap surprise to lift her spirit. It helps keep sibling rivalry at bay as well. Planning something special that only she gets always brightens her day. This week I picked up one of Hallmarks Poster Cards for kids at my local Walmart. They have a bunch to choose from. I picked out the Rapunzel one for her because it’s one of her favorite princesses. I wrote her a message about how proud I was of her for getting through the first week of first grade.
They had Disney, Marvel, DC Comics and even the new Divergent movie. The poster is 4 feet tall but folds up to fit into a regular sized card so it makes for easy mailing.
She was so excited about getting it but once she realized that it opened up you could see the extreme excitement cross her face. She said, “Wow this is so cool,” a bunch of times. I always love seeing that excited face. It means I did good and she feels the love I’m trying to show her. Time is flying so fast that I fear she won’t appreciate things like this once she gets older.
Later that night she went upstairs to see where she was going to put her awesome new poster. A few minutes later my husband sent a text message from upstairs to show me what she had done with the poster. I can’t even make this stuff up. I was laughing so hard. Not only had she put the poster to bed and tucked it in, she did it in our bed. We finally ended up putting it behind her door. She is still talking about it and thanking me for it.
