This post brought to you by Chex® cereal. I have been compensated and given free product for my time & commitment, but all opinions are 100% mine.
I love the holidays. It brings my family together more then we normally do. We also get to eat lots of great food. That’s another reason I love the holidays. Making tasty recipes that the whole family raves about, but after spending most of the time in the kitchen preparing food it’s nice to make something quick to get the vultures out of the kitchen to let you work.
That’s why I love the 15-minute recipes that you can make with Chex® cereal. I can throw it all together and put it in a bowl for the family to enjoy. Chex® cereal comes in so many awesome flavors now that the recipes are endless. Whether it’s a savory snack to serve before a meal or a dessert treat, you’ll find something you love.
Everyone loves chocolate, so I decided to make a fun recipe with a few simple ingredients that pack a loud punch. We use freeze dried fruits in out 15-minute Chex® Party Mix to get an explosion of flavor and crunch. If you’ve never tried freeze dried fruit you are missing out. All of the great flavors are locked in and melt in your mouth. I generally get mine from my local Target (in the candy section) because they have lots of different fruits to choose from.
The recipe I’ve made bellow is made with strawberries but you could substitute it with anything. Another favorite that we use is raspberries.
First, you need to start melting your chocolate. In a microwavable bowl add your dark chocolate pieces. Microwave on 50% power for about 1 minute. Take out and stir and then microwave in 15-second increments stirring in between to get the majority of the chocolate chips melted. It’s ok if they aren’t completely smooth, the size of your chips will make a difference and dark chocolate chips tend to be bigger.
Measure 3 cups of Chocolate Chex® cereal and add it to your chocolate bowl. Use a rubber spatula to mix and blend the cereal and the chocolate without breaking the cereal. Heat for 1 minute, take out and stir. Repeat this process 2 more time (3 minutes total) Do not over heat, chocolate does burn.
Pour the mixture out onto a cookie sheet that you’ve lined with wax paper. Separate the cereal pieces from each other as much as possible. Big clumps of are nice but we still need to toss them with our fruit. It makes for better snacking if they are separated.
Cool for 5 minutes. Then place in a bowl and mix your freeze dried fruit pieces. Store in an airtight container if you have any left after munching.
