Day 1 – 40 Bags in 40 Days

Today I started the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge. It was circulating around Facebook and I was actually thinking about something I could give up for the 40 Days of Lent. I’m not religious but I wanted to challenge myself to set a goal and stick with it.
I was planning on giving up exercise (lol), I think this is a far better solution. You see, I could be called a borderline hoarder, at least that’s what my mother and husband would say. When we moved into this house it was like being in a bachelor pad. We had so much space and barely anything to our name. It was mostly stolen when we lived inside the city. But add two kids and being a very busy blogger (we get a lot of “swag”) then you have more crap then you have places to put it. If you haven’t seen my episode of World News with Diane Sawyer then you don’t know how bad my problem is!
So I’m Spring cleaning for 40 days and today I started with out medicine cabinet that happens to be located in our kitchen because we wanted it out of little arms reach. We had vitamins and medicine that’s been expired since 2010. Yeah, that’s a long time. So we disposed of the pills and recycled all the plastic bottles. Moved a lot of stuff to the bathroom. I can already tell we are going to be doing a lot of moving things around. Good thing I’m doing the whole house so that it actually leaves!
Day 1 was great! My husband helped and we freed up a couple shelves.

  • I am constantly stashing things in cabinets. We have a 40 foot length of wall with builtins up to a 13 foot ceiling…so you can imagine what we’ve hidden there! I found expired medicine last year when I cleaned out our pantry shelves.
