Day 4 – 40 Bags in 40 Days

I’m on a role and can I just say how good it feels to declutter and organize your chaos! It’s an awesome feeling once you start getting started and on a path. Today, we started to declutter the drawers in our kitchen. Most of my drawers I couldn’t even open because they were so filled.

The first drawer was my utensils and “kid” drawer. They were the biggest and messiest. First we recycled any lids that didn’t have a cup to go with it. Which was most of the drawer. You put the lids on the cups we could find and took out all the kid flatware. Our kids use the silverware with us so we no longer need it cluttering up the drawers. After doing this we were left with a few straws and medicine droppers so we were able to split the utensil drawer into two separate drawers. Drawers - 40 Bags in 40 Days

We decided to make one drawer the “sharp” drawer. Since we shifted the kid drawer out I didn’t want little hands reaching in to find a microplane instead of a spoon. Pizza cutters, peelers and graters all make up this drawer. With a few grilling supplies also. The rest of the utensils went into the other drawer. I alternated which direction they go to save even more space.

Next we tackled the baking drawer that houses my measuring cups and various baking supplies. Some of the utensils made it into this drawer also, like the spatula and ice cream scoops. There were a few utensils that we had a few of that we were able to get rid of. Drawers - 40 Bags in 40 Days

Last was the silverware drawer. Which didn’t look scary until you picked up the silverware tray and realized how much stuff was underneath it! Pretty much all of it went into the trash. We put all of the drink “accessories,” things like drink stirs and glass mustaches (it’s a thing I swear), with the alcohol cabinet.

What a huge difference! I was able to vacuum out the drawers too, who knew they would have so many crumbs in a place that is supposed to be clean.

  1. I need to do this. I have clutter and I can’t stand it. I think I will start in my kitchen. We seem to collect many utensils that we just don’t need. I cleaned out my linen closet the other day and took everything unwanted to Goodwill but that was only one closet!
