We are kicking off summer break with a fun DIY Percy Jackson Camp Half-Blood shirt and a summer reading challenge for my middle-grade reader. In between summer camp and visiting with family, we want to make sure there isn’t too much screen time around the house.
I’ve partnered with Disney Book Group for this summer reading challenge and they are hosting a giveaway for a complete Percy Jackson and the Olympians box set!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a fantastic five-book series for middle-grade readers. The series has been on the New York Times bestseller list for over 500 weeks! Rick Riordan creates such amazing stories that build on mythology, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is all about Greek mythology. The stories are fast-paced and adventure and an exciting way to learn about the Olympians, the Titans, the Minotaur, and more.
JaMonkey started reading book 1 in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Lightning Thief, the moment the box set came in the door! When she is done reading I’ll use The Lightning Thief discussion guide to chat with her about the story. Over the summer she will read all of the stories in the series and report her progress to me.
We would love it if our readers joined the challenge with us and shared in the discussion like a virtual book club! If you join in, make sure to use hashtag #PercyJacksonandtheOlympians and tag me @JaMonkey so I can see your posts!
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
Make your own Percy Jackson Camp Half-Blood shirt
To kick off our summer reading challenge, I made this fantastic Camp Half-Blood shirt as they wear in the story. You can download the cut file here. Click here to go straight to the project on Cricut Design Space. I used my Cricut Maker to cut the vinyl.
All you need is a bright orange shirt and some black heat transfer vinyl. I used the Siser EasyWeed Stretch. After you cut out the design, weed it in sections. There are a few little pieces in the Pegasus you don’t want to miss. Then iron-on the design! Now your kids are ready for Camp Half-Blood!

I’ve always been a fan of Pegasus!
This question is impossible to answer. I haven’t read the Percy Jackson series and there are too many amazing characters to pick from!
Hercules and Percy are my favorite of both categories.
I like Poseidon the best, but I do like Hercules.
