My mom bought me this beautiful summer scarf for my birthday this year. It’s my favorite color and I wear it all the time now because I’m not much of a jewelry girl. It adds a nice pop of color to my outfits and it’s light so that I’m not hot in the southern sun.

If you don’t want to head to the local fabric store you can make your own summer scarf out of old t-shirts. As long as they are cotton it will worn great.

I used three cotton women’s tank tops in coordinating colors that I found at a thrift store. I looked for small fitted shirts so that the I would get different lengths of fabric.

Start by cutting the shirts in cm-1 inch strips. DIY Summer Scarf

Repeat the process with the other shirts. DIY Summer Scarf

Stack the strips layering the strips with more solid colors. Stretch the strips a little to cause the cotton to roll. Over time the cotton will continue to roll into and you won’t see the rough edges. DIY Summer Scarf

Take a strip and cut it to be one long strip. Wrap the top of the scarf. This is the place that will rest on your neck and hold the whole scarf together. Tie a knot and tuck the knot into the wrapped section. DIY Summer Scarf

These three shirts turned into two different scarves, so you’ll have one for you and one for a friend!
