I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participatingTFF_100 percent laundry2

The chemicals in our products and our food have gotten out of hand. When you read the studies that say scientists have link exposure to these toxic chemicals can lead to many health risks, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects and various reproductive problems. That’s horrifying, to think that our kids are being exposed to so much junk.

In 1976 there was a law passed called the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), but unlike other major environmental laws, it hasn’t been updated. To tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals slip through the cracks and are still being used in our products, without being properly tested or disclosure by the companies that produce them. I think it’s time for an update to the law, don’t you?

You can become a Toxin Freedom Fighter by signing Seventh Generation’s petition to urge Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976. Help spread the word to other parents that 80,000 synthetic chemicals introduced into our market since the Toxic Substances Act was passed in 1976. Let them know that the EPA has required testing on less than 10% of them. Thats far too many sneaking into our products.

fbshare_03Think about it, this goes beyond just our families use as well. Think of all the chemicals we are washing down the drains that end up in our rivers, ground water or oceans. If it’s a river, chances are that it’s being “filtered” for further human consumption. I’m one of many parents that wants a reform for products and food alike. I’m not saying that I’m a chronic label reader but I would like to live in a world that I don’t have to worry about whether the products I use are going to cause me and my family harm. Some people are happy to see that a product isn’t animal tested but I’d like to make sure that every chemical has been tested in the grand scheme of things.

If scary things like cancer and Alzheimer’s can be prevented by using a safer, thoroughly tested products, then wouldn’t you? We’ve made little changes in our house. When we aren’t cloth diapering (when my daughter goes into daycare) we use the Seventh Generation diapers. We also love all their children’s products. They are quality products and I know they are going to be safe for my family.
