Fall is my favorite times of the year, but it also means your home needs to do a flip to get prepared for the colder weather. I’ll share my Fall/Winter cleaning tips with this handy Fall Cleaning Checklist that you can print and use for your home.

I skipped heavy Spring Cleaning this year, so I’m using the Fall breaks to reorganize and downsize my home. I need someone from hoarders to visit my home and knock some sense into me. Especially since we recently replaced our disgusting carpet with easy to clean luxury vinyl planks. It was a task, but my husband did a great job.

One of my priorities is to prep the house by weatherizing the windows and doors. Both of the girls’ rooms get very cold during chilly nights, so I have to prep their windows to try and keep it out. I used Duck® brand Roll-On® Window Kits to seal their windows. It was quite easy to install because it has a pre-taped edge that you just stick and unroll. It creates an airtight seal in the window frames, and the shrink wrap is seethrough, so you still have all the light coming in. While you are weatherizing, check for leaks in the doors, clean the windows, and scrub the door thresholds. Make sure to reverse your ceiling fans as well!

You’ll be kicking on the furnace and the fireplace once it gets colder as well. It’s a good time to have the furnace checked and the chimney cleaned or cleared. You don’t want to figure out one of these things isn’t working properly when it’s ice cold outside. Schedule these appointments in the Fall!

The next thing I do is sort all of the kids’ summer clothes from their dressers and pull out the long sleeved shirts from storage. There isn’t enough space in their dressers to hold all of their clothes, so I keep a winter bin that I store in my closet to keep them out of the way. In most cases, these items won’t fit them next year when it gets cold again, so half go to Goodwill, while the other half is stored for when Squish gets big enough to wear them. There is a lot of laundry to do during this switch because I want to make sure that someone else can use our hand-me-downs. (Most of the clothes we buy are hand-me-downs) I like using Molly’s Suds Laundry Products because they are formulated with a “no compromise” attitude and the purest of ingredients. They are also Certified Cruelty Free by Leaping Bunny.

While you’re in the laundry room, clean out the tubes in the dryer to make sure they are free from lint. Clean behind them and all the exhaust pipes. Lint in the dryer is a fire hazard and should be cleaned out regularly. You can use your vacuum to easily get lint from the tubes and intake vents from around the house. It’s the perfect time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and change the batteries.

Heading outside, let’s gather all of the outdoor games, grill tools, and cushions for a good scrub down. The Scour Daddy is a great tool to get off any outdoor grim. These scour pads maintain its shape under pressure and leave no scratches or odor. I keep these Scour Daddy’s in the cute Sponge Caddy in our bathroom and kitchen because it has two suction cups on the back and the water drains out of the bottom. After you’ve given everything a good scrub, you can put them away for the Winter.

Now it’s time to get down to the dirty and clean up the areas that may only get hit twice a year. Time to clean behind the large appliances as well as inside them. Deep clean the refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and oven to get out any leftover food. PowerOE Cleaner is an odor eliminating all-purpose cleaner powered by Thymol,
nature’s defender and an alternative to bleach. It is free of harsh chemicals and solvents. PowerOE promo code – JMK17 for 25% off the entire purchase

Now it’s time to tackle the floor. I feel like I clean my floor nearly every other day now with hard floors. With three dogs and four humans walking in and out of the house, we are bound to track something in. I vacuum up all the dirt and debris and then mop on a weekly basis. The O-Cedar: ProMist Max Spray Mop is always filled so that I can grab and clean. I prefer reusable products over the throwaway mop options because they are so wasteful. The ProMist Max Spray Mop head is made from microfiber and washable. I’m slightly obsessed with the O-Cedar line of cleaning products. I also have their Dual-Action Dust Pan and the Dual-Action Microfiber Flip Mop that I use for quick dry sweeping.

If you have grout in your kitchen or bathroom then the Grout Gator is a handy tool to scrub the grout clean. It can clean 2 to 8 lines all at once and the brushes are adjustable for all tile sizes. (Use promo code BB17 for 15% off at Grout Gator)

Some other things I like to do before it gets cold are to check the tire pressure in my car, bike, or stroller tires. After all of the cleaning is done I change the air filter as the final step because I’ve kicked up all the dust and dirt.

What are some of the things that you do during Fall cleaning?
