My husband and I take turns every morning getting our oldest up and onto the bus each day. The days that my husband gets her out of bed she comes home and I notice she is in a wacky outfit or she doesn't have a coat on and her hair is a hot mess. I’m sure at this point in the school year the bus driver and teacher have caught on to the days that Daddy gets her up. But I'm not going to lie, I'm just as guilty of oversleeping, missing the bus and sometimes even missing breakfast. I have shortcuts that help on those days, because let’s face it we all have them.
It never fails, she has to be dragged out of bed during the weekdays for school but on the weekends she is up at the same time sneaking into our room or her sister’s room to wake us up. I have been getting in the habit of trying to put my daughters outfits together so that she isn't wearing a sleeveless shirt in the middle of winter. What I really should do is take out all the spring and summer clothes so that she can't even find them to wear. Living in Georgia you can never tell if it’s going to get up to 60 degrees outside despite the fact that it’s the middle of winter. The other day she went to school in a striped t-shirt and a pair of striped leggings. I started laughing the moment she got off the bus because she looked like a colorful prison inmate. I don't really have a sense of fashion but stripes and stripes don't go together for a reason, and now I know that reason.
The days that we wake up late and don't have time to have breakfast I normally grab something small that she can eat in a hurry to hold her off until she can grab breakfast at school. She didn’t end up eating it but the, “You’re the best mom every” and hug I got before school was totally worth it. I know she wants crazy bento box mom, but I’m just too much of a hot mess to get it done. Besides, when I do get it done I get three times the praise. I’ll take that any day.
