I participated in a campaign with The Motherhood to promote the Food Pantry Holiday Makeover initiative from Walmart. All opinions are my own.
Our country is still facing a serious problem with hungry. According to a recent USDA report, more than 49 million Americans, including 16 million children, experienced food insecurity in 2013. That's a staggering number to me. Families visit food pantries and kitchens to help curve this hunger and right now is the busiest time of the end for them, the holiday season. It takes more than meals and donated food to make this happen. The Food Pantries need to have reliable equipment, proper storage and transportation of the food as well. It's a lot of upkeep especially when you're running almost nonstop during the holidays. It takes a lot of help, funds and support to keep these places running so that others aren't going hungry.
Walmart is holding a Food Pantry Holiday Makeover that will provide $1.5 million in grants to winning food pantries for facility makeovers. They can use the grants to purchase items like new kitchen and storage equipment, furniture, paint, or other supplies that are needed to support food pantry operations and, in turn, the families they serve. You can help choose the pantries that will receive the makeovers by a simple click of your mouse.
Starting December 2 thru December 12 you can visit the Holiday Makeover page and vote for your favorite food pantries once per day (24 hours). The 75 food pantries with the most votes at the end of the voting period will receive a $20,000 grant to help makeover their kitchen. The winning food pantries will be announced on December 15. It's that simple! Imagine how much of a difference this holiday makeover could make for your local food pantry.
So go find a local food pantry on the list and give them a quick click to vote for them. It's a simple way to help a great cause on #GivingTuesday.
