I was walking through the mall one day when I stopped in to look at the pets in the pet store. There he was, with his floppy ears and his tongue poking out of his mouth slightly. He was the cutest puppy I’d ever seen and I wanted him to come home with me. A pure breed Yorkshire Terrier. He was expensive, I mean like, “You paid how much for a dog?”, expensive. But I fell in love with him and I couldn’t bare to see him in that store another moment. That dog built my credit score up for me. But he was my first pet as an adult and I’m still glad I got him. When I met my husband, his roommate had a big dog that he never really was home to take care of so my husband took over his care. It’s sweet to see a man snuggled up with his best friend. When we combined our households together it was a challenge for the dogs. Gator, my husbands dog wasn’t taught how to be around other animals and Nero, my dog has small dog syndrome. They fought a lot. But, they learned to love each other over time. Maybe they just tolerate each other really. They even escaped the house one day by prying the metal garage door open. They ran around the neighborhood together, and when Nero was hit by a car Gator stayed next to him until I arrived. When I arrived he was sitting in the back of a police car with a sad guilty look on his face. It was like a teenager that knew he had done something wrong. Thank goodness Nero only tore a ligament in his back leg and that someone stopped to help him and call me. They still occasionally fight from time to time. The last time they fought Nero had to have his shoulder repaired in surgery. It was the same week that Peanut came home from the NICU and it was a hard time for us. The vet gave us the hard choice that no pet owned wants to make. My friends and family helped to save his life so that my girls wouldn’t be without their best friend. Nero is the one that snuggles up with them. They are the first thing they talk about when they wake up in the morning. He gets a big hug each morning. We love our dogs so much. They get lots of love from us each day. They lay still while the girls dress them like princesses and use them for pillows. Gator made a great baby pillow when the girls were babies. They return the love also. Sweet puppy kisses are never on short hand around this house. Watching our dogs with our daughters is beyond rewarding.
We do everything we can to take good care of these sweet dogs. They are both getting in their adults years and they need extra care to keep them in good shape. There have been a huge influx of ticks and mosquitoes this year so we’ve been combating them with different tips and videos we’ve found on the K9 Advantix® II website. K9 Advantix® II is a once-a-month topical application for dogs and puppies that repels and kills ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes. These pups hold a special place in my heart and now they hold a special place in my daughters hearts as well. I think it’s so important to have pets. They help brighten our lives and give us a companion to love and take care of. I hope ours stick around for a long time.
