Get Your Science On – Volcano Experiment VIDEO

I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team. I received the science labs for my honest review.

My family is super nerdy. Not only in the geek fandom way like Star Wars, Disney and Marvel. I’m talking about the BBC Earth, husband went back to college for physics, and NASA streaming nerd! I got my husband into some pretty nerdy podcasts. I’m not a podcast person but sometimes he comes into the room playing it and I hear Neil deGrasse Tyson talking to one of his good buddies and I get all excited and snuggle up to him to listen in. That buddy is none other that Bill Nye. When I was a kid I used to watch Bill Nye the Science Guy every day. Repeat episode, who cares, IT’S SCIENCE!!! When they announced that it was available on Netflix, we started watching it with JaMonkey and she was fascinated. Then Netflix announced an original series that it would be doing with Bill Nye and I did a little happy dance.

Bill Nye Saves the World isn’t geared towards children because it covers topics that won’t hold a child’s attention for very long. The episodes all have a flow to them as well. Bill explains the concept for the episode, someone covers a story about that topic, there are comedians, experiments and then he sits down with a panel of experts to discuss the topic. It’s a mix of Bill Nye, Jon Stewert’s The Daily Show, and Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show. I love that the first episode tackles something near and dear to his heart and my own, climate change. It was a great one to start with, I love that he tells it like it is. All episodes are streaming now on Netflix!

The only way to celebrate my excitement is to do an experiment with the kids of course. Mindware sent us their Science Academy lab kits to try out and we had a ton of fun learning about volcanoes. The volcano kit comes with multiple experiments in one kit. In fact, you had to go through them in order if you wanted to do the next experiment. Here is a look at everything inside. We started out by making lava bombs (bath bombs) and then watched them fizz up together like a volcano. The girls thought it was awesome. Check out our video to see more.
