This past weekend was such a special and fun time for the girls and me. We had a lot of things planned and ended up turning it into a staycation in the city. We bonded together and ate lots of junk food, well at least the kids did because I’m on a diet. It was a jam-packed weekend of fun.
Check out the video we made of our adventure.
Our adventure began early Saturday morning when we went to an event at Drybar to celebrate the launch of the new show on Nick Jr. called Sunny Day. The girls picked the hairstyle that they wanted and the lovely ladies at Drybar took great care of them. They have never experienced a full blow out like this, so they were excited about and loved it. After we left, JaMonkey told me that she wanted to have a birthday party that started at Drybar so that they can be super glam for her birthday! I’m game for that. I love getting a good blow out.
After our fun at Drybar, we wandered down to Atlantic Station to watch an early screening of the new movie coming out called Leap! 11-year-old orphan, Félicie (Elle Fanning) has one dream – to go to Paris and become a dancer. Her best friend Victor (Nat Wolff), an imaginative but exhausting boy with a passion for creating, has a dream of his own – to become a famous inventor. In a leap of faith, Victor and Félicie leave their orphanage in pursuit of their passions. But – there’s a catch, Félicie must pretend to be the child of a wealthy family to gain admittance to the prestigious and competitive Opera Ballet School in Paris. And with no professional dance training, she quickly learns that talent alone is not enough to overcome the ruthless, conniving attitudes of her classmates, led by the devious Camille Le Haut (Maddie Ziegler) and her wicked mother Régine (Kate McKinnon). Determined to succeed, Félicie finds her mentor in the tough and mysterious school custodian, Odette (Carly Rae Jepsen) who, along with Victor’s encouraging friendship, help her reach for the stars. The girls and I loved the movie. The animation surrounding the dancing was very impressive and fun. There were little dancers dressed in their leotards there as well. Both of my girls have participated in dance, so this was a great inspiring film for them.
After the movie, we stopped for a quick bite to eat before heading to the Doubletree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody. I had been to this hotel before a few years ago for a Travel Massive Atlanta networking event, and since then the whole hotel underwent and a massive renovation. They hosted us for a wonderful staycation to experience how great it is now. Doubletree by Hilton is one of my favorite chains because of the warm cooking welcome they give you. Although I wasn’t able to partake in the cooking eating this time, the girls were excited about the surprise welcome. TheDoubletree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody is filled with fun art from around Atlanta and the south. I love all the modern walls they have put in as well. A cool lighted pixel wall separates the bar from the lounge/business area in the main lobby.
We settled into the room and took a little breather from our busy morning before went to hang out at the pool for a little while before dinner. The pool had big fluffy towels for us to use and the shallow end of the pool was the perfect height for Squish to walk around and play.
All the swimming we did in the pool made us hungry, so after a quick shower, we went downstairs for some dinner at the hotel’s new restaurant, Southen Grove. The girls both had a bowl of Tomato Bisque and I had a tasty Ceasar salad. But the fun happened when we went back to our room to eat some snacks and watch a movie in the comfy beds. We watch Monster’s University before crashing out early. I thought for sure that they would stay up late or at least make it to the end of the movie, but by 8:30 they were asking me to turn off the lights and TV so they could fall asleep. I should have known that the next morning was going to be an early one. By 6:45 am they were playing with some of the fun things the Doubletree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody had given us. Glow bracelets and coloring books. We went down for breakfast where they have a huge buffet filled with all kinds of great options. It was a special trip so I let the girls have some Nutella toast to start the day before we went home and got ready for our next adventure, the amazing solar eclipse.
The Doubletree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody is a wonderful place for a staycation in Atlanta. We really enjoyed ourselves and having the girls for a special girls only trip was so heart warming. We were able to bond and enjoy each other’s company and reconnect.
