It’s holiday gift shopping time, and I’m so excited to share some fantastic items with you that I think kids are going to love. My girls are four years apart, and thankfully, they still love to play together. They are also learning about the importance of gift-giving to others.
Every year there are a ton of new toy releases around the holidays. There is always something new that kids can discover.
We are big American Girl® fans in our house. Last year, Luciana’s Mars Habitat landed right in the middle of our living room. This year, a new friend will be joining the group, and she looks just like Squish! The American Girl Truly Me collection offers a wide range of choices with hair, eye, and skin color to match your little one! It’s lovely because Squish has a unique combination of dark hair and light blue eyes. We received the Truly Me #23 doll that looks just like her, even the freckles on her face.
The Truly Me dolls arrive with the Friends: Making Them & Keeping Them book that is an interactive one with quizzes, true stories, and fun activities inside. American Girl has some of the best books with great stories to help girls grow and learn. We have quite a few in our collection.
Another thing I love about American Girl is all the wonderful accessories for the dolls. There is a lot of thought and planning that goes into making some of these sets. The Cookie Baking and Decorating Set is a festive fun one that includes color-changing gingerbread cookies. The piping bag holds color water that activates the icing to show up on the cookies, so girls really feel like they are decorating cookies with their dolls.
What is a doll without fun outfits to change them into? The Warm Wishes PJs for Doll are soft and snuggly and come with the cutest pair of fuzzy slippers. These pajamas are holiday themes with a snowflake print with red and white colors.
Sticking with this fun holiday ensemble, the Decked Out Holiday Dress for Doll is a sparkling, festive outfit. The fancy dress is perfect for a holiday party and includes a glitter headband and rhinestone ring, red glitter flats, and a white faux-fur wrap. The best part about these wonderful outfits is that they have matching ones for your girl to match the doll!
Speaking of amazing books, Candlewick Press released a fantastic and inspiring book called Leading the Way: Women in Power. This book is filled with influential women in American history politics, leadership roles, and political activism. There are 50 women feature in the book, and over half of them are nonwhite women. Some of the biographies include: Jeannette Rankin, who in 1916 became the first woman elected to Congress; Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to Congress; Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman to sit on the Supreme Court; and Bella Abzug, who famously declared, “This woman’s place is in the house. . . the House of Representatives!”
Now more than ever is it important to teach our girls about how they are welcome and their voices matter. I can’t wait to share this book with my daughters, especially JaMonkey, my 12-year-old, to help inspire her future.
JaMonkey is also at the age that she loves getting clothing for gifts. She has her own sense of style that she loves to flaunt. One of her favorite colors is teal, so I’m sure this stripe pompom beanie from Justice is going to be a hit. The beanie is a sweater knit and is so incredibly soft. The large fluffy pompom on the top adds some cute flair.
Gifting to Others
Every year we make sure that we also teach the girls about gift-giving to those they care about in their lives. For us, that includes lots of cousins and neighbors that we play with all the time. I make sure they put a lot of thought into selecting items that they know they would really enjoy. Because the spirit of gift-giving wouldn’t be as great if you didn’t get that jaw-dropping, awe-inspired face when someone opens a gift they love. At least, that’s my favorite part (internally saying ‘NAILED IT!’)
Build-a-Bear has a fun line of assorted Furry Friend Gift Sets that include fun creatures like Llamacorns, reindeer, mermaids, and this adorable blue blast husky. This pup is ready for an adventure with the red and white canvas high tops and fun Christmas light sweater and scarf combo. A snuggly friend that any child would love to receive.
Get $5 off a purchase of $25 or more with code BEARYMERRY at buildabear.com or at your nearest Workshop! Some exclusions apply, see full details at buildabear.com/offers.
You can’t go wrong with toys that make you do a double-take. Jaaks created a hilarious Chocolate Poop Maker that my kids think is the best. The chocolate gets “flushed” into a toilet and into little poop shaped candy molds that have faces on them. Kids love weird stuff, and this tops the list!
The Gigantosaurus is a 15-inch dinosaur toy that stomps around and roars. At the push of a button, the Gigantosaurus comes to life! The mouth opens and closes with roaring sounds and has six points of articulation. This dino is recommended for ages three and up.
Piggy Paint
If there is one thing my girls LOVE to do, it’s painting their nails. They also like to bit their fingernails, and all I can think about is the chemicals going into their mouths. I’m a HUGE fan of Piggy Paint and their non-toxic nail polish.
Chanteur Jewelry for kids
I recently discovered that my youngest daughter has an allergy to the jewelry she gets at the mall. I’ve had to replace a ton of earrings with a safe nickel-free one. I know there dangly unicorns are going to be a huge hit.
Chanteur has the most beautiful, non-toxic jewelry for kids:
- 100% lead, nickel, and cadmium free.
- Swarovski Elements crystals – sparkles more than real diamonds!
- Tons of trendy designs for your little princess – unicorn, mermaid, turtle, and much more with classics like hearts and pearls.
- Necklaces ($24.95), earrings (studs and hanging – $19.95), bangles ($24.95), bracelets ($24.95), handbags ($19.95), hairclips ($12) and more.
Chanteur has classic pearls and beautiful red pieces perfect for holidays, too!
Fat Brain Toys
My daughters are always leaving little messages all over the house. Now they can write their messages on this adorable light up cloud. It’s a fun accessory to hang in their rooms and offer positive affirmations to your daughter.
Have you started making a shopping list for the kiddos in your life? Hopefully, we gave you some inspiration for some fantastic gift ideas that I’m sure they will love.
