We sat down with Jake Abel and Max Irons to talk about their new movie The Host based on the book by Stephanie Meyer. They were great fun to chat with and I wanted to share it with you! I loved The Host, it was slow to get started but the story really is a great one.
SYNOPSIS:
What if everything you love was taken from you in the blink of an eye? “The Host” is the next epic love story from the creator of the “Twilight Saga,” worldwide bestselling author, Stephenie Meyer. When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about — Jared (Max Irons), Ian (Jake Abel), her brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury) and her Uncle Jeb (William Hurt) , proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.
Do you think that Andrew Niccol’s stayed true to Stephanie Meyer’s book?
Max Irons– Absolutely which isn’t normally the case. Before we started shooting we had two weeks of rehearsal which we were all involved in. Stephanie, Adnrew, it was all very collaborative and we discussed what we thought was very important and the essence of certain scenes.
Jake Abel– Even Stephanie herself says that Andrew almost elevated it at times. That the esthetic of the film, how the seekers look and how the people dress in the world and the location of ship rock where our cave is. She said that all these things were much more cinematic than even she had envisioned. So not only did he take the best parts of the book and condense it down into some 100 odd pages but he also visually brought it to life.
The age difference between you and Saoirse Ronan is the same in real life as it is in the movie. Did it take you outside of your comfort zone since she was only 17?
Max – First Saoirse is very mature. Secondly I’m very immature and thirdly Saoirse’s father was about 5 feet away from me at all times. He’s a tough Irish guy and I’m not going to over step that line in any way.
