Every year I get hyped up about Black Friday. It’s a rush I love giving myself every year. I always spend too much money and buy too many gifts and in the end it’s ok because after it’s all over with I do my other yearly tradition. Giving.
It started when I had children of my own. I wanted to give them everything they wanted. All I could think about though was the children that don’t get anything at all. So every year my daughter has to part with some of her toys. Stuff that she thinks another little girl or boy would want to play with. Her birthday is in the month of November so we are able to use birthday gifts as well. Then my black friday shopping happens I have more than enough for my children as well as my best friends kids. Toy’s for Tots is one way I give back. I also snatch up winter items that are deeply discounted so that I can donate those as well for children that may not have them.
It’s traditions like this that I hope will shape my girls into having big hearts. I don’t want the word greedy or unthankful to ever be mentioned in this house. They will be giving adults one day. I have a handful of friends that went above and beyond during the time when Lil’ Peanut was born and I was recovering. Those are the people that get it. That life isn’t about words but actions.
That’s why this year I’m proud to be helping Giving Tuesday spread the word about their amazing day of giving thanks. Save the date, mark it now as you’re reading this November 27th, 2012 with be #GivingTuesday.
