Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance storyline
“It’s not Star Wars without the war so it was absolutely fundamental that the story of the land finds the guests between the Resistance and the First Order,” says Carrie Deck, VP story group at Lucasfilm.
The Resistance has set up shop on Batuu near the Black Spire Outpost. Walking into the queue line, you’ll see a full-size red A-wing and a blue X-wing outside before heading into the base.
“This is a time when the Resistance is back on their heels, they’re a ragtag group, and they’re looking to rebuild,” says Scott Trowbridge, Star Wars portfolio creative executive/studio leader at Walt Disney Imagineering.
There are tunnels that have been carved by some of the first settlers of the planet. The caverns will have old carvings in that that you can scan with your Disney Play App to see what they say.
“You’re going to be hearing communications between the flight decks and other personnel,” says John Larena, Walt Disney Imagineering executive creative director. “And droids communicating with each other, keeping this place running.”
Another immersive aspect that can be intercepted and listened to in the app. As you continue through the line you will see rooms that have been carved out to fit the Resistances’ needs. The walls have rock formations that serve as benches for tired guests to rest their feet.
There are backstories in each of the rooms you visit. Using the app to unlock and interact with them should help the waiting a little more fun.
Once you reach the “Ready Room,” you’ll be greeted by BB-8 and a hologram of Rey asking you to join the Resistance and fight the First Order in a dangerous mission that takes you off-world. No need to worry, Poe Dameron is your wingman!
Walk out onto the flight deck and jump in your transport ship docked next to Poe’s X-wing. After you take off, you realize that the First Order was ready for you and your ships are surrounded by Star Destroyers. Poe jumps to hyperspace to find help as a tractor beam pulls you on board one of the Star Destroyers.
Once you are onboard the Star Destroyer, stormtroopers are waiting when the doors open. Resistance riders will be marched to a detention center and thrown in a jail cell much like the one Poe was questioned in by Kylo Ren.
“The same sort of thing will happen to you,” Larena said. “You’re going to get a visit from Kylo Ren and then the rest of the ride is going to happen for you. I can’t tell you how. You’re going to have to figure your way out of detention.”
There will be a final battle and then you’ll return to Batuu, rumored to be an escape pod.
