New Marvel Comics Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge #1 Baiting the Hook

The new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge tie in comic dropped this week and our favorite smuggler makes an appearance. The story brings us to Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. The Marvel comic is a tie-in series for fans to learn about the upcoming park. It focuses on Don-Ondar and some of the many interesting items in his shop. I feel a great disturbance in the Force though.

“There is a criminal gang out to plot a heist for a very specific object there,” Ethan Sacks teased.

We are not only being introduced to the Black Spire Outpost but also being introduced the characters that we will see in the land. Disney Parks and Lucasfilm are looking to create storylines that play a huge role in the immersive experience of the park. Using the Play Disney App guests can immerse themselves further.

The story starts with a Clawdite (Changeling) named Remex walking through Black Spire Outpost. The first thing I notice is that he is walking past Ronto Roasters, the restaurant that will serve dishes roasted with a pod racing engine.  Remex is offered a Ronto Wrap and some Meiloorun Juice, some of the items that appear on the menu. You can’t miss the Green Milk as well.

The First Order starts to arrive and it’s time for a change in scenery. Which leads the rest of our characters, Kendoh and  Wooro, to their destination, Don-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

Don-Ondar is an Ithorian that stands behind his desk with his assistants flanking him. Behind him, you can see weapons and various helmets from both sides of the war. He has a translator to help him speak. Our group of criminals are hoping Don-Ondar can help them find a hard to find item. That’s what he is known for anyway. Like the baby Sarlacc he has hanging out in his den.

That’s when he shares the tale about a certain smuggling crew that is pretty popular. You see, they made the kessel run in twelve parsecs. Han and Chewie visit I’vorcia Prime Preserve in the Outer Rim to animal-wrangle a Sarlacc for Don-Ondar. It’s quite the adventure to get the little monster to its new owner.

Don-Ondar likes sharing about these stories as a way to prove that he manages to get his hands on anything he wants. I’m anxious to see if the baby Sarlacc will have a home in the Den of Antiquities in Galaxy’s Edge. The way it is showcased in the comic is in a cylindrical tube with soil in it. You can see the Sarlacc under the soil dangling and also his mouth about the soil. It reminds me of an ant box that you can see what’s happening underground and above.

Jumping back to the present the group shows Don-Ondar an image of what they seek, he becomes enraged, refuses to help  and throws them out. The criminals have baited him to find something truly precious and thought to be lost.

#2 teases that a long-lost Jedi Lightsaber is the bounty that Greedo must find in next months issue!
