I’ve never been good at decorating. Since Pinterest rolled out I’ve been picking up a thing or two on pulling a room together. When I started doing my office makeover, I started with the color scheme. My original plan was just grey and white, modern chic. Then I realized it just seemed like such a sterile combination. I knew I needed some pops of color to break up the room. So I started with my favorite color, turquoise. One thing led to another and there was yellow also. But the one piece in the room that I consider the ‘game changer’ is my DENY Designs Heather Dutton Triangulum Throw Pillow.
Everything else in the room sticks with the color scheme but that pillow is a kaleidoscope of color. The other pillow that accompanies it is yellow linen and has birds and cages on it. I stumbled onto it while searching for the triangle pillow. I had already bought the hanging yellow bird-cage mobile so when I found the pillow I knew it was a perfect match. It tied another piece of the room together. It’s a little detail that you would only notice if you were spending time in the room but a clever detail.
I feel like the pillows, even though they are on a small sofa hold this room together and gives you something to focus on. Once you notice the colorful pillow you then make the connection with the second pillow. It’s amazing that two simple pillows can fit so perfectly into a room. Sometimes that is all it takes. When I’m flipping through Pinterest it’s the pillows that bring in the pops of color or even texture. They can have funny sayings that invite you in to relax. I always need pillows. On the sofa, at my desk, and in the bed.
I could have fun will all sorts of poufs like this cableknit turquoise blue pouf. One day I want a room just for reading and relaxing one day and fill it with poufs and big puffy pillows. Where the kids can come in and we can lay around on giant pillows, reading and snuggling on cold days. Making funky forts our of throw blankets.
