Safe Haven is out now in theaters and it’s the perfect flick for Valentine’s day! I’m not one for chick flicks but I actually enjoyed this one. Plus you get to see Josh Duhamel without a shirt (SOLD).
An affirming and suspenseful story about a young woman’s struggle to love again, Safe Haven is based on the novel from Nicholas Sparks, the best-selling author behind the hit films The Notebook and Dear John. When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.
The chemistry between Juliane Hough and Josh Duhamel are fantastic but the real treat in this movie has got to be Mimi Kirkland. This little treasure is making her film debut in Safe Haven. You may recognize her from some Bilmore ads but this girl is cute and funny without even trying. She made this movie completely worth while for me. As I said I’m not much of a chick flick person.
No I’m normally a book reader but I didn’t get a chance to read this one before the movie was made. The story line is great though and without even reading the book you can tell Lasse Hallström captured it beautifully. You’ll fall in love with Alex and Katie at the same time as they battle their own inner demons of moving on and trying to learn to love again.
You’ll experience a wide range of emotions as you feel for the individual characters and their stories. Then right when you think it’s all over you are hit with a massive twist that everyone in the audience said, “oh, wow” to. It will melt your heart and you’ll need your tissues for sure. That’s all I’m going to give you though.
Go see Safe Have out in theaters now.
