I've been an Apple girl for a long time. But, I'm never opposed to testing out the competition to see what I'm missing out out and what Apple is missing the mark on. These past few weeks I've been using the new Samsung Galaxy S4 from Verizon Wireless. Here are some of my first thoughts after unboxing it.
The screen is huge.
The phone is super thin.
The camera is amazing.
This is a side view of the Galaxy S4 so you can see how thin it is. I'm blown away by how thin they got this phone. It makes slipping it into pockets easy. The LCD screen however is quite huge. 5 inches to be exact. Aside from it's big brother, the Samsung Note which is more like a tablet with phone capabilities, it's one of the biggest. But the bigger your screen gets the harder it becomes to hold it naturally in your hand. I loved watching videos on the phone but it was slipping out of my hands and I needed both hands to type because my thumbs couldn't reach the other side of the screen.
The best feature on the Samsung Galaxy S4 is the camera and the editing options after you take a picture. One of the coolest camera settings was the beauty face mode. I took a regular photo and then another in beauty mode and it looked like I was instantly photoshopped and looked like I had on makeup! All it took was a snap!
Some of the other great camera modes are sports mode, for taking quick burst photos for high action. Another amazing mode is the Eraser mode, which takes a few photos at the same time and deletes any moving objects that appear in the background. A similar one is the Best Photo mode which takes 5 photos super fast to catch the best one. Great for kids I may add. Those family photos that one person isn't looking at the camera and then when they do the other child looks away. This merges the best photo together. Genius.
You can even use the phone as a remote control for your TV. Takes a universal remote to a new level. All in all I loved the phone. I do however think that it's a tad too big for my taste. I like being able to text with one hand in I need to and you just can't do that when the screen it too large. Pair that with the fastest 4G LTE network and the phone is unmatched. I can see why Apple and Samsung are always at each other. Samsung is leaping ahead on features like the camera.
Thanks to Verizon Wireless for letting me test out the Samsung Galaxy S4 for this review.
