Scare Away Autism is a family, friendly Halloween decoration extravaganza! The Marcus Family created Scare Away Autism dedicated to their oldest daughter Melissa who is 19 years old and has autism. It has become a yearly family tradition (and Melissa’s favorite holiday) to fill the yard with wooden signs, string lights and find those one of a kind ghost and goblins. Over the years as the display has grown, families from all across Metro Atlanta have come to enjoy this frightfully, friendly family display. Scare Away Autism will benefit Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
Looking to surpass last year’s turnout with a few hundred visitors and raising over $3,000 in donations, the Marcus Family invites you to enjoy this one of a kind sight at their home located at 8196 Hewlett Rd., Atlanta, GA 30350 on October 19 – 31 from 7 – 10pm. Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys and the prevalence figures continue to grow. Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S and costs a typical family $60,000 a year on average. Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases. There is no medical detection or cure for autism but early intervention is key.
