Scared Sexy Book Review

Happily Ever Afters, but make them spooky and spicy! If you’re looking for a fun collection of stories to read this fall, you need to put this collection of six books on your TBR. I’ll put my reviews in order from my favorite to my least favorite in the collection.

Scared Sexy, a deliciously dark collection of Halloween romance where things that go bump in the night might just steal your heart. These seductive stand-alone stories blend chills and heat in the perfect Halloween treat—each designed to be devoured in one sitting.

My Boyfriends Are All Monsters

Kimberly Lemming

My Boyfriends Are All Monsters is the funniest in the Scared Sexy collection. This was my first Kimberly Lemming story, and now I want to read everything she has written because I was cackling the whole time. The MMC in this book has got to be the best monster ever! The FMC is fiery and bold.
My Boyfriends Are All Monsters

Summary

Tossing a coin in a mysterious well seems like a harmless way to cope with being ditched on a mountain—until every impossibly hot man in town starts competing for one woman’s attention in this steamy short story by USA Today bestselling author Kimberly Lemming.
Lucy Sawyer’s wish for true love lands her in an enchanted town where the men are supernatural, the chemistry is off the charts, and everyone wants to date her. But they say that things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon Lucy may need to decide if she’s willing to pay the cost of her happily ever after.

Spicy Little Curses

J.T. Geissinger

Grumpy/sunshine goodness! When it comes to plot, Spicy Little Curses was my favorite. Rooted in New Orleans legends, a journalist (FMC) is trying to uncover the mystery surrounding the markings on our MMC. Vanessa Moyen and Troy Duran narrate and embody the characters perfectly. Troy’s voice is so deep and grumbly that it tingles my brain.
Spicy Little Curses

Summary

A reporter’s disbelief in the supernatural is tested when she uncovers a tattoo artist’s sinister family secrets in an enthralling short story by New York Time bestselling author J.T. Geissinger.
Petra is skeptical when it comes to the French Quarter’s creepy urban legends. Until she meets Dax Rousseau, the proprietor of the House of Ink and Blood. The eldritch markings on his flesh tell more than the tale of a doomed bloodline. They come slitheringly alive. And the nearer Petra gets to the maddeningly sexy Dax, the closer she is to being the next victim of his ancient family curse.

Falling

Christina Lauren

Out of all of the Scared Sexy stories, this one was one of my favorites. The MMC is poetic and lyrical in his musings. It left me swooning with happiness. I need a prequel to his story immediately!
Falling

Summary

One darkly seductive immortal’s powers of persuasion have worked flawlessly for nine centuries—until he meets the one woman who can resist him—in a wickedly hot short story by New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren.
Cat should be afraid of Brigan—the devastatingly gorgeous stranger at a Halloween party whose very presence makes everyone else fall at his feet. But while his supernatural allure drives others to mindless obsession, Cat somehow keeps her wits…even as she surrenders to temptation. When this cursed being realizes she alone can see his true nature, one night of searing passion could break a centuries-old spell—or doom them both.

Hot for Slayer

Ali Hazelwood

There is something about a man doing the yearning that is so hot. Hot For Slayer is part of the Scared Sexy collection in time for spooky season. Our FMC is a vampire, and the MMC is a vampire slayer who loses his memory during a fight. It is a fun way to roll out their long history of crossing paths. The banter is excellent, but the yearning topped it off for me. Nina Yndis and Maxim Reston narrated this one, and they have such great energy.
Hot for Slayer

Summary

He’s crashing on her couch, solving her sudoku puzzles, and looking at her like she’s his eternal flame (minus the whole bursting-into-ashes part). As his memories slowly return, Ethel realizes she might be in danger of losing more than just her head…

Beautiful Nightmare

Katee Robert

Beautiful Nightmare is a sweet monster romance where the FMC is a new-ish demon learning how to feed off the emotions of her victims, but things go terribly wrong and alter everything for her. There is a surprising twist at the end that made me smile.
Beautiful Nightmare

Summary

For one awkward sleep paralysis demon, scaring humans should be simple—except Gemma’s first solo haunting goes hilariously wrong in this tantalizing dream of a short story by New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert.
When Gemma’s supposed to terrify her appointed victim, she ends up captivated instead. Caleb, a romantic who believes in all things supernatural, finds her adorably pink-skinned, horned form more alluring than alarming. But as their steamy night unfolds and unexpected feelings bloom, Gemma must choose between her demonic duties and the human who makes her feel anything but monstrous.

Space Vampire

Ruby Dixon

There is something about vampires in space that will always intrigue me. Two creatures brought together by an accident on a space station find comfort with each other as they navigate to safety. They have instant trauma-bonding chemistry.

Firebird
really liked it
Firebird is a solid dark romantasy read. You have dragon-shifter political leaders of Rome. A witch who I don’t think we have seen the full extent of her power yet. There were so many little side stories told that I believe our FMC will ...
Sunrise on the Reaping
it was amazing
Oh Haymich, my heart is shattered for you. This was the perfect bridge between The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes and Catching Fire. Linking the wickedness of The Hunger Games with the victors who came together to end them. If Suzanne C...

This was a sweet romance read. I really enjoyed the audiobook narrators (Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen). I don’t usually read books that fall into the religious category, but I’m a sucker for Scots and Irishman so that is why I wanted...
My Demon Hunter
really liked it
I am thoroughly enjoying the Hell Bent series. My Demon Hunter was even better than My Funny Demon Valentine. I’m a sucker for demonology stories, and these are filled with all kinds of interesting characters. This one features a plus-si...
