Star Wars The Last Jedi Trailer Breakdown

I’ve already watched the new Star Wars trailer too many times. So, of course, I’m overthinking every aspect of it.

My face while I’m watching the trailer.

I think we’ve already established that the theme for The Last Jedi is the Darkside. Everything is red and black.

If you recall, Empire Strikes Back was a learning period for Luke so that he doesn’t get persuaded to join the Darkside when he battles Darth Vader. It looks like we will follow Rey in her training with Luke now, mirroring the same lessons. He mentions that he has only seen the same amount of power once before and we can all assume that means Kylo Ren.

One of the hardest parts for me to watch was when it appears that Kylo Ren is attacking his mother, General/Princess Leia Organa’s, spacecraft. While Leia was supposed to have a substantial role in the upcoming franchise, Carrie Fisher was taken from us far too soon and I assume they needed to change the plot around a bit. I can tell you what though; there won’t be a dry eye in sight if we have to watch Princess Leia die on screen. I get choked up every time I see her.

Thankfully, they followed that clip up with Chewbacca and an awesome little Porg yelling in the cockpit. I’m slightly obsessed with those little Porgs. They are going to be some handy comic relief for this heavy movie.

The biggest twists from the trailer we saw were Fin wearing a First Order uniform leading Stormtroopers (and battling Captain Phasma) and Rey asking for help to find her place in all this and then Kylo Ren holding out his hand.

I’m still holding out hope that the Sith will be defeated from within by Kylo Ren (or Rey if she turns). We shall see.
