I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Mom Corps YOU. I received a free trial to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
This past year I decided that I would head back to college to get a degree to help myself get a decent income coming in. But I also know that once my little ones are both in school full time I need something to do! So I want to make sure I’m prepared for anything. When I first attended college way back when, I had to work full time in order to pay for everything. I was working full time at a restaurant at night so I didn’t get much studying done and I had to leave school. Do I regret leaving? I’m not really sure if I could give an answer to that. On the one hand I know now that I wasn’t ready to take school seriously. I liked making money so I was fine with working. On the other hand, I know have two children which makes it more difficult to balance everything. I’m also twice as focused now because I WANT this.
There are so many awesome resources out there on the internet for going back to work. I’ve been checking out Mom Corps YOU which is an amazing resource for women and moms that are looking to do just that. They have webinars, a great list of online resources, live chat coaching, community forums and tons of other tools. If you aren’t familiar with Mom Corps they are a talent acquisition firms. One of the hardest things mom need to deal with is that dreaded resume gap that screams, I WAS A STAY AT HOME MOM! No matter how proud of that you are it’s a red flag to employers for a couple of reasons. It’s a sad reality about our society but it is true. First off, you have kids so you are more likely to become distracted, or called out of work because of a sick child. The next thing is simply the fact that times and technology changes every year now. If you’ve been out of work for a few years you aren’t going to be “up on the trends” in some industries.
It’s not all about going back to work though, there are also resources on stress management, decreasing debt and even health. All things moms can use when trying to manage their household. Such an awesome resource that I’ve been cramming my brain with all the knowledge I can for this new chapter in my journey. Mom Corps YOU is available via an online subscription for an introductory annual price of $99.99 (regularly $149.99) or $19.99 a month.
My biggest challenge is balance right now. I’m currently managing two blogs, a household with busy kids and husband, as well as going to college part time. I’m tired at the end of the day and I feel like everything is falling between the cracks. I have trouble staying on track and managing my time and that’s what I’ve been focusing one the last two month so I don’t get overwhelmed. Because the last thing I want is to repeat history and have to leave school again. So far I’m doing good, I’m passing all my classes! But we are only one test in. I have faith that I can and will do this though. It may take me years to graduate but I’ll get there and when I do it’s going to feel awesome!
