The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Gets Weird

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run sticks to its cartoon roots with crabby patty storylines but raises the bar for epic and bizarre weirdness. With a list of cameos, parents will get a kick out of the crazy adventure that SpongeBob goes on to find his best friend. The movie premieres on Paramount+ on March 4th.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run takes us into a new animation style for the characters. There is also a fun backstory for SpongeBob that kickstarts the start for a new show coming to Paramount+, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years.

While The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is a charming movie that teaches children about friendship and being kind to others, there is an interesting twist in the film that will make you go…

In the midst of a journey under the sea, SpongeBob and Patrick find themselves in the desert with an unlikely spirit guide named Sage, played by the talking head of Keanu Reeves.

As if the oddity of seeing Reeves in a tumbleweed that helps our heroes throughout the movies, a strange side story unfolds that will make your whole family stop and look at each other in bewilderment and say, “what the heck is even going!?”

While the movie is definitely on the strange side, the new animation style is beautiful, and the continued use of the new 3d format on Paramount+ in the new SpongeBob show will be great. The new show brings in a younger audience with slapstick-style jokes and younger characters.
