I'm the worst when it comes to going to the gym to work out. So much so, that I bought myself a walking desk to make sure that I'm getting moving. But that only covers my walking, I need something else. When it comes down to it, I don't like working out in front of other people. When you're overweight you feel like people are staring at you and judging you. It's rough, to say the least. That's why I was excited when Pear Sports reached out about trying their awesome app and gear.
Pear Sports is an app that you can download on your iOS or Android device. Then grab the Pear Mobile Training kit which comes with a set of Pear Stride Earphones with Earlock pieces in three different sizes and a heart rate monitor belt. It also comes with a handy little nylon bag to keep it all in.
Once you create an account you can download workout programs to the app like the new Interactive Training Guide for Pregnant Women led by Nancy Anderson. It's like having a personal trainer in your ear. It you are pushing yourself too hard, it will tell you to take it down a level. It does this by monitoring your heart rate during the workout. For someone like myself that is out of shape, I get winded very easily and my heart rate generally raises faster than it is supposed to. With Pear, I can workout at the right level and not hurt myself. To be honest, even a personal trainer isn't that good because they aren't taking my heart rate the whole time.
There are a bunch of workouts to choose from. Biking, running, strength training all rolled up into one app. It gives you videos to show you how to properly do the work out also. With the pregnancy workouts there are different levels of training. Start with the pre-pregnancy workouts when you're trying to conceive and then move into the trimester training and then post pregnancy. It's a full set workouts for the the year that you're pregnant.
So if you don't see me at the gym, it's because I'm working out in the comfort of my own home. I don't have to be so self conscience about anything jiggling on the elliptical.
