We love visiting museums and locations that we can educate ourselves as well as our kids. One of my personal favorite things that I’ve come across is anything about the Titanic. I’m not sure why I’m so fascinated by it’s all mind boggling. Such a tragic story. So I was extremely excited to visit Titanic – The Experience.
You get a guided tour led by trained actors in period dress portraying actual Titanic notables. You’ll get to see 100 real artifacts recovered from the wreck site of Titanic. Seeing how battered some of the artifacts are, while others are in amazing condition. The preservation of the things that have been found are amazing. So many people have come together to share their Titanic collections with the public after 100 years.
My favorite part of the exhibit were the replicas of actual areas on the Titanic, including the Grand Staircase, First Class Parlor Suite, Boilers, First Class Cabin, Verandah Cafe and Promenade Deck. You’ll even get to give the Captains wheel a spin. You’ll feel the chill when you walk out onto the ships deck and then get to touch an iceberg. But nothing compared to the 3-ton section of the Ship’s hull you’ll see at the end of the tour. It’s the second largest piece of Titanic ever recovered.
After being in the ocean for more than 100 years the ship is starting to be destroyed by iron eating micro organisms. So it’s amazing to see the items that have made it out to be shared in these collections. They are so full of history as well as sadness for the massive loss of life. It’s important to teach our children about history like this and the changes that occurred after this wreck in 1912. Kids will love seeing all the cool artifacts and replicas.
