This past week I spent a few days in Los Angeles for the world premiere and press junket for Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. It was a busy (rainy) few days but it was incredible! This is my experience seeing the movie for the first time and walking the red carpet with the stars.
Thanks to Disney for bringing me to LA for the Mary Poppins Returns world premiere.
The journey started with a screening of the movie at The Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. I just to stand next to an Oscar and see where some of the industry screens the movies that will be chosen for The Academy Awards. That in and of itself was really exciting to me. At the end of the screening, there was a Q+A that was moderated by the hilarious James Corden (I love him!) I wore my Main Street dress from The Dress Shop and everyone mentioned that it was so fitting for the movie.
The next day we got to do our own interviews (more on that later) So we met everyone before the red carpet world premiere, that gave us the chance to be recognized at the after party by everyone we had just interviewed. It was pretty exciting.
The red carpet was beautiful! It was a cobblestone with a Cherry Tree Lane backdrop and Spring fair banners hanging on the wall. There were Cherry Blossom trees and lamp lights all along the path as well. It was one of the best red carpets I had ever seen. There were cast members dressed as the balloon lady and lamplighters.
I’m not a fashionista but I had a vision for this red carpet that I wanted to Disney Bound as Mary Poppins. I think I did a pretty great job pulling it all together. On the plus side, some of the stars that I met at the after party agreed that my Mary Poppins bound was on point.
After walking the red carpet we went into The Dolby Theater (where they host the Oscars) to screen the movie. I’ll never forget the moment that Dick Van Dyke walked into the theater. He received a standing ovation and he just had so much energy about him. You can tell he is really happy about this sequel and being apart of the Mary Poppins family. It was the second time I had seen the movie so by this time I was singing along with the songs. I can’t wait to share my review with you.
Red Carpet Mary Poppins Disney Bound:
- Navy blue vintage dress
- Burgundy flower fascinator
- Lace-up Vintage cut out heels
- Carpet bag clutch I found on Poshmark (but they sell the Mary Poppins bag and umbrella at Disney!)
After the movie comes the after party! I got to meet lots of wonderful stars including Bellamy Young, Matthew Morrison, John Krasinski, and Todd Stashwick. I even got a picture of Matt Damon as he was walking into the theater. But the highlight was getting to see Emily Blunt again. She is just so lovely.
Disney always makes their parties so much fun with things to do like crafts. You could make a kite, get a caricature made of yourself, and all sorts of fun photos ops. Delicious food followed by tasty tea like desserts!
