You may be thinking that the Bambi release into the Signature Collection is just another release of a movie, but I’m here to explain to you why a movie being a part of the Signature Collection is so special. You’re not just getting a movie; you’re getting hours of additional content from artists, directors, and Walt Disney himself. Thank goodness that all of Walt Disney’s production meetings had a transcriber so that they could freely think out loud without taking a ton of notes. Those transcriptions have been transformed into a fantastic look into the production of Bambi.

One of the highlights of the Bambi Signature Collection is the feature of Inside Walt’s Story. It’s around an hour and a half of readings from the production meetings alongside the movie, unseen artwork, and pictures of the production crew. Hearing them narrate alongside the movie is truly magical.

Peter Behn voicing Thumper

The way they talk about the character development and how they changed Thumper to match Peter Behn’s voice. They loved how rambunctious he was in his readings. They also mention how they wanted him quoting things all the time. My favorite Thumper quotes and one that I continue to pass on to my children is the, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.”

Donnie Dunagan voicing Bambi

Especially after talking with Donnie Dunagan and Peter Behn about their experience working on Bambi as children, it’s amazing to see them in the featurettes. They told us about how Walt brought in animals to live on the studio lot, dubbed the little Disney Zoo so that the artists could animate the animals better. On the Blu-ray, you can see the little Disney zoo and a room full of animators drawing skunks, deer, and rabbits.

Here is a look at some great deleted scenes for you to enjoy!

Original Tyrus Wong artwork

One of the best parts of Bambi are the beautiful backgrounds created by Tyrus Wong. He created a dreamy, impressionistic style background that didn’t take away from the animations but still left you in awe of its artistic beauty. We got to speak with a Disney Animator named Paul Felix whose work is inspired by Tyrus Wong’s art. Many of the ones mentioned in the new films in the video below were created by Paul Felix.

If you’re a true Walt Disney fan and love the magical things that he has done in his life with animation, then you need to make Bambi Signature Collection apart of your library. They great thing about this Blu-Ray combo pack is that you will get the Blu-Ray, a DVD copy, and a digital copy so that you can watch it anywhere on your devices.

Here is bonus material that you’ll find on the Blu-Ray:
