This year Winter Solstice occurs on December 21st, at 5:47pm. It's the heartbeat to the Holiday season and even Christmas was originally on this day until the Julian Calendar came into play which has it on the 25th now.
It's the shortest day of the year and the sun is at it's lowest point in the sky. I've read a couple of traditions where people stay up all night and welcome the Sun back in the morning. I have a two year old and a job so I think I'll pass on that! It's a Monday too so I know I'll be working. But I think I'll try and take the day off and celebrate the day with Serenity being outside and enjoying the day. Make a big breakfast, bundle up and find some good adventures that day.
We have a huge mound next to our house that houses LOTS of chipmunks. I think Serenity and I will make some yummy snacks for them and place them around the dogwoods and mounds.
