Godmothered Changes the Formula on Happily Ever After

Godmothered is a heartwarming family movie that changes the way you think of ‘happily ever after’ to break the mold and open hearts up to a new fairy tale.

In a time when love looks different to everyone, Godmothered strives to shed light on the things that bring joy and happiness to our lives. Elenor (Jillian Bell) is a Godmother-in-training even though not many people believe in happily ever after anymore.

Elenor leaves The Motherland to help the last assignment, a young girl named Mackenzie (Isla Fisher), find her happily ever after, proving that there is a need for fairy godmothers. When she arrives in Boston, she discovers that Mackenzie (Mac) is a 40-year-old single mother to two fantastic girls.

Director Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget Jones’s Baby) recognized the comic potential in the thought that the classic fairy godmother would be completely out of place in today’s world. It’s one of the main reasons this story is so funny. Godmothered will give you serious Enchanted vibes in the same way that a fairy tale character is thrown into a world they were not prepared for at all.

“It’s so fun working with Sharon. I was a big fan of Bridget Jones, and she really is a thoughtful director who can discuss the emotional landscape of your character,” Isla Fisher says. “She’s very good technically. She loves to keep the camera moving. She allows you to do an improv take. She’s able to walk that fine line where we can laugh, but we still have heart.”

It’s wholesome to see Elenor interact with the other characters because of how pure she is. She wants to help with a happiness makeover.

“I just fell absolutely in love with the character and the idea for the film,” Jillian Bell says. “Eleanor is probably one of my favorite characters I’ve ever gotten to play. She is naïve in some areas, but she’s also smart. She wants the best for everyone, and she wants everything to be magical and wonderful and lovely. Her dream in life is to come down and prove that fairy godmothers are still needed during these modern times.”

You’ll fall in love with the beautiful message of the film. It’s a feel-good movie the whole family will enjoy.

Godmother is streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting December 4th.
