How Ant-Man and The Wasp Stands Out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

One of the things parents go searching for when a new Marvel movie comes out is whether Ant-Man and The Was is suitable for kids. What age groups can handle or not handle the movie. It’s a valid question because my youngest who is 6 wouldn’t be able to handle Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War the same way that my 10-year-old would. That isn’t the case with Ant-Man and The Wasp. Peyton Reed, the director, and Paul Rudd, who helped write the script both mentioned that Ant-Man and The Wasp is a family driven movie on the screen and for viewers. I completely agree and can’t wait to take both of my girls to see Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp. It’s a family friendly movie that parents can feel comfortable going to see and enjoy together.

Thanks to Disney and Marvel for bringing me out to Los Angeles for the Ant-Man and The Wasp event.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is a fantastic movie that had me laughing so hard I was crying. A good laugh is something that all Marvel fans need after seeing Avengers: Infinity War! The sequel was better than the first. We all know that Paul Rudd has the ability to do this in any role he is playing, but Scott Lang is one of my favorites. You’ll get to see another epic Luis story from Michael Peña. There are some great plot twists that I didn’t see coming either.

Ant-Man and The Wasp takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War and what happened after Scott Lang teamed up with Cap and the Avengers. He has to deal with the fall out from Hope and Hank as well as being on house arrest because of the Sokovia Accords.

Family is a central theme in this film, not just between Scott and Cassie, but the other groups in the film as well. You can even see the family aspect between the X-Con team. You’ll also see the family dynamics between other characters as well. Working together to reunite Hank and Hope with Janet Van Dyne played by Michelle Pfeiffer. We get little nods to Cassie and her potential of becoming a Young Avenger one day. I love that Marvel Studios is laying the groundwork for that to happen in the future.

But let’s talk about the best aspects of the movie. Evangeline Lilly finally putting on The Wasp suit and Hannah John-Kamen playing Ghost. Putting these two badass women on camera together had me jumping in my seat. Did you know that The Wasp is the first female Marvel character to be featured in the title of a film? Did you know that the comic book character Ghost was originally a man? Marvel is breaking down these walls and bringing more female leads to the front. What an honor for Evangeline Lilly and a well-deserved one because in all honesty, the technology started with Hank Pym. It’s a family business that Scott Lang burgled his way into. Hope Van Dyne trained for and helped make the technology that Scott gets to use. I would have been ok with The Wasp and Ant-Man because that’s how this movie truly plays. The scene with The Wasp and Ghost battling it out in the cars is one of the best fight scenes in the movie.

Make sure you’re paying attention to scenes from the Quantum Realm, Kevin Feige says they “may pay off” in future movies. Don’t forget to stay for the mid and end credits scene as well.
